Electric school buses will help ensure all kids arrive at school healthy and ready to learn by reducing their exposure to toxic air pollution.
They will also lower carbon emissions, create an opportunity to reduce operating costs and create jobs. It’s hard to imagine a worthier cause than investing in the health of our kids as we build an economy that reflects a future that will benefit us all.
For our public health, for more economic opportunity, and to help bridge the gap for underserved communities, America needs electric school buses at every school.
Electric school buses are healthier.
Children’s lungs and brains are especially vulnerable to air pollution. Diesel buses emit air pollutants that can cause cognitive impairment, even impacting test scores and children’s ability to pay attention in class. They also contribute to an inequitable burden of air pollution that falls disproportionately on lower-income communities and people of color.
Electric school buses can help save on operating costs and create jobs.
While electric school buses require more up front investment than diesel buses, they can provide long-term savings through lower fuel and maintenance costs and providing services to the electric grid. They also create jobs in a growing industry.
Electric school buses are the future.
Electrifying school bus fleets can unlock needed electricity storage and help normalize electric mobility for an entire generation. The transportation sector is the United States’ largest source of greenhouse gas emissions.
Electric school buses are a proven technology.
Electric school buses are a safe, tested, deployable technology that is ready to transport millions of children to school.
Manufacturers are ready to scale up production, all that is missing is funding.
Federal investment is needed to drive up manufacturing scale and further drive down costs as the industry matures.
